Thallium vials have to be released within 10 minutes of QC
testing - and new European legislation requires that quality
test results from every step in the manufacture of all pharmaceutical
products must be reviewed by a `Qualified Person' before
release for sale. A new computer system involving a package
called BLISS has not only helped meet the stringent requirements
but is highlighting potential problems before they become
serious. The system has demonstrated accuracy of 99% and
is pointing up areas for improvement that may not have been
detected before. In a year the system will report on 2,200
final products with over 140,000 individual test results
recorded on 17,000 samples.
